-The Couple HOPES Team
Our team developed Couple HOPES to make help more accessible. Couple HOPES is an online, self-help intervention that brings the scientifically-identified elements of effective PTSD treatment into your home to improve PTSD symptoms and enhance relationships. It was developed in Canada by a team of researchers and clinicians to make help more accessible.
The Couple HOPES Australia research team is made up of clinical psychologists, researchers and psychology students from Monash University. The study was also shaped with input from a consumer advisory group made up of first responders and partners with lived experience who have helped tailor the research to the first responder community. By conducting this research study, we hope to inform the introduction of new and innovative approaches to supporting Australian first responders with PTSD and their partners. If you would like to contact the research team, please email couplehopesaustralia@monash.edu.
The Couple HOPES program was developed by a team of clinical psychologists, psychology students, postdoctoral fellows and digital media experts from the IMPACT Lab at Ryerson University (Canada) and the TULiP Lab at York University (Canada). They created this program to provide high-quality care that also overcomes the stigma associated with seeking mental health services and the logistical, economic, geographic, and social barriers to help.
The goal of this study is to test an online, guided, self-help program for individuals with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms and their intimate partners: Couple HOPES (Helping Overcome PTSD and Enhance Satisfaction). Additional goals of this guided self-help program are to increase access to interventions that may improve PTSD symptoms, enhance relationships, and improve individual mental health and well-being.

Currently we are offering the program for FREE for any couples who screen eligible to take part in the program. Individuals who participate in an interview regarding their experience of the program will receive $50.
Once couples gain access to Couple HOPES, they will be granted 8 weeks to complete the Couple HOPES program. The average time couples take to complete the Couple HOPES program is anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks.
The Couple HOPES coaches are trained members of the research team, each member has an educational background in psychology and has been trained to utilize the Couple HOPES platform. It is important to stress that your coach is not a clinical psychologist, therapist, or a clinician, and will not be providing therapy. They are trained to help you use the self-help program to get the most out of it.
Our team is working to enrol 42 couples into the Couple HOPES Australia research trial.
If you have any questions about participating in the research trial or the Couple HOPES program, please email the research team at couplehopesaustralia@monash.edu.
